Join us for an inspiring workshop that turns marine waste into something truly meaningful. The activity begins with a short introduction to the environmental challenges facing Thailand’s coastlines, where discarded fishing nets, ropes, buoys, and plastic waste have become a growing threat to marine life, including turtles and whales.
The host grew up along the Andaman coast and is part of a grassroots initiative that transforms ocean trash into beautiful, practical tote bags. With a background in graphic design and a deep love for the sea, they blend creativity and purpose in everything they do.
You’ll learn how to upcycle real ocean waste like fishing ropes, nets, rubber sandals, and factory fabric scraps by combining them with colorful southern Thai batik fabrics and textile off-cuts. Using simple tools and your imagination, you’ll design and assemble your own eco-friendly tote bag, full of personality and positive impact.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll also hear stories about the local marine environment, the impact of ocean pollution, and how small actions can help protect these precious ecosystems for future generations.
At the end of the session, you’ll leave not only with your handmade bag, but also with a deeper appreciation for the sea and a memory that lasts far longer than any souvenir.
