From Mae Sot, a scenic 2.5-hour drive winds its way up into the lush cloud forest, eventually reaching a remote Karen village perched high on a mountain ridge.
Upon arrival, a warm welcome from the local community includes introduction to a host family, who serve as guides into the rhythms of mountain life. A guided walk through the village provides insight into traditional Karen customs, and the day concludes with a delicious home-cooked welcome dinner, surrounded by cool mountain air and warm smiles.
Forest Elephants, Traditional Weaving & Community Stories
Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The day begins with a fresh mountain breakfast, shared with the host family as the morning mist lifts from the hills.
After breakfast, a 1-2 hour trek winds through the spectacular cloud forest, leading to where the elephants live freely in their natural habitat. Along the way, rich forest scenery unfolds with towering trees, wild herbs, and birdsong guiding each step. Once at the destination, time spent observing the elephants includes learning from the mahouts, who share stories of their deep relationships with these gentle giants.
A forest picnic lunch with guides provides a peaceful interlude, or the option to return to the village for a warm, freshly cooked meal.
In the afternoon, a traditional weaving workshop led by the women of the village offers hands-on experience creating colourful textiles while learning about the patterns and symbolism rooted in Karen heritage.
As the sun begins to set, gathering with villagers around a fire or under the stars creates a relaxed evening of community storytelling. Tea and laughter are shared, providing deeper insight into the values, beliefs, and daily life of the hosts. The day ends with a comforting dinner prepared by the host family, creating a sense of belonging in this mountain sanctuary.
Elephants, Bamboo Craft & Karen Cooking Traditions
Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
An early wake-up leads to a serene breakfast with the host family, as soft morning light spills over the mountaintops.
This morning features another 1-2 hour trek through the forest, leading to a different group of elephants in another part of the lush cloud forest. Observation of how these elephants interact within their family group includes learning more about their care and the important role they play in the surrounding ecosystem.
Return to the village brings a well-earned lunch and time to relax.
The afternoon includes a hands-on bamboo weaving session, learning how to craft baskets or everyday items using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Following this, joining hosts in the village kitchen for a Karen cooking experience involves preparing delicious regional dishes using fresh herbs and ingredients gathered from the surrounding mountains and gardens.
As the day winds down, sitting together to enjoy the collectively created meal provides one last evening of good food, connection, and culture in the heart of the mountains.
Farewell to the Mountains

The final morning in the village begins with one last peaceful breakfast with the host family. Time allows for soaking in the mountain views, sharing heartfelt goodbyes, and reflecting on the unforgettable experiences of the past few days.
