Depart the hotel at 9am to start this exciting day into the world of Koh Kood’s coral reefs. The first part of the day is focused on learning about corals, their importance to the environment, and how coral propagation works. The divers running the course are passionate and have been utilising Ocean Quest’s Coral Propagation Program. The focus is on rebuilding existing reefs using only live rocks and broken coral to stimulate new growth.
After the educational portion, you’ll head to a local coral garden either by boat or from the shore. These underwater gardens are lovingly tended by divers and students alike. You’ll be a part of ongoing process of planting and tending to the corals. After a month or so, the rocks and corals become substrate, or living rock. At this time, they are replanted on Koh Kood’s surrounding coral reefs.
Depart for your hotel around 4pm.
*For those who want to try some field work, a two-day course can be provided. The second day would be focused on diving and replanting the substrate. This course requires a minimum PADI Open Water certification.
